HOUSTON, March 23, 2022–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Westlake Corporation (NYSE: WLK) today announced that the Westlake Epoxy plant in Pernis, the Netherlands, has received International Sustainability & Carbon Plus (ISCC+) certification. The site received mass balance certification for its tracking and handling of sustainable materials in the manufacture of epoxy products. This is a significant step in Westlake Epoxy’s strategy to integrate renewable carbon materials into its raw material supply chain while reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

ISCC+ represents an international, practical and transparent system for the certification of biobased, biocircular and circular raw materials at all levels of the supply chain. ISCC+ certification recognizes the use of Westlake Epoxy (formerly known as Hexion BV) to protect socially and economically sustainable production. The company is tracking its existing feedstock mix and replacing fossil materials with renewable resources.

The aromatic monomers for the liquid epoxy resins produced at the Pernis site were certified by mass balance as substitutable with bio-based alternatives. These include phenol and acetone, which are used to make bisphenol A (BPA), a critical building block in the manufacture of epoxy resins.

This latest certification reflects Westlake’s ongoing commitment to working in a more environmentally responsible manner. Westlake Epoxy also recently received a Platinum rating for its European operations from EcoVadis, the world’s largest and most trusted provider of corporate sustainability ratings. Westlake Epoxy serves a variety of industries, including adhesives, aerospace, automotive, civil engineering, composites and wind power, electronics, electrical laminates, and marine and protective coatings.
