The Ukrainian grain producer has passed all the controls in Istanbul and is now heading for Lebanon. International experts had previously verified the presence of weapons on the ship – not voltage-free.

The first freighter loaded with Ukrainian grain since the start of the Russian war of aggression has received permission to continue to Lebanon after an inspection in Istanbul. International inspectors have completed their inspection, the Turkish Defense Ministry said.

Experts from Ukraine, Russia, Turkey and the United Nations boarded the ship in the morning and checked whether only the 26,000 tons of corn or possibly weapons were being carried.

Two-boat crossing

The joint mission was not without tensions, huh ARD correspondent Michael Schramm reports: “To examine the large grain carrier, you have to cross in a small boat. However, the representatives of Ukraine and Russia refused to do this in the same boat. So it was crossed in two separate boats . You could make it see immediately: here is the tension.” All in all, the inspection lasted two hours and quite a long time.

The “Razoni” was the first ship to leave the Ukrainian port of Odessa on the Black Sea on Monday under the agreement signed at the end of July between Ukraine and Russia.

Other ships are already loaded

According to a press release from the Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure, 17 ships already loaded are currently waiting for permission to cast off. They must be guided through a safe corridor through the mined waters of the Black Sea and checked by Ukrainian, Russian, Turkish and UN experts before leaving for the Mediterranean.

This is intended to secure the export of millions of tons of grain that are blocked in Ukraine because of the Russian aggression war. At the same time, the possible smuggling of arms should be prevented.

Moscow warns the deal will fall through

Despite the success of the transport, Russia has again warned of a possible failure of the grain agreement. The agreement has a “comprehensive character”, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, according to the Interfax agency. “That’s why we caution against attempts to delay or not fulfill the second part of the package,” she said, referring to the prospect of easing some sanctions against Russia.
