Pearl Jam surprisingly canceled their concert in Vienna last Wednesday. The reason is vocal issues with singer Eddie Vedder.

The American band Pearl Jam surprisingly canceled their concert in Vienna last Wednesday (July 20). The rockers gave as reason the vocal problems of the singer Eddie Vedder (57 years old). During the last outdoor performance of the musicians outside Paris, “extreme circumstances” prevailed, according to a group statement on Instagram.

The heat, dust and smoke from the fires are said to have “damaged” Vedder’s voice. “He’s seen doctors and been treated, but his vocal cords haven’t recovered yet,” Pearl Jam said. The group performed at the Lollapalooza Paris festival on July 17. Large-scale forest fires are currently raging in France due to the heat wave.

Pearl Jam apologizes to fans

“This is brutal news and a terrible time for everyone involved,” Pearl Jam continued. “As a band, we’re deeply sorry and we’ve been trying to find ways to play anyway. And Ed wants to play. There just aren’t any voices available right now…” Tickets will be reimbursed at the appropriate points of sale.

The next concert of their European tour is scheduled for July 22 in Prague before continuing to the Netherlands. It is not yet known if these shows will also be canceled.
