The price of the dollar stabilized in Syria today, during early morning trading on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, on the unofficial (black) parallel market.

The Central Bank of Syria and the “crisis traders”

With the increase in the rates of remittances received by the Syrian people, coinciding with the proximity of the holy month of Ramadan, the Central Bank of Syria reconfirmed that it will not raise the price of remittances -despite the rise in the exchange rate dollar in the parallel market – which once again opened the door to controversy in this regard.

Commenting on a related issue, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Dr. “Ali Kanaan”, stressed that the exchange rate must float along with the floating of wages, salaries and investments and the granting of import licenses.

And Kanaan considered, during his speech to the local newspaper, Al-Watan, that the official exchange rate for remittances is 2,500 pounds, which represents the concentration of income distribution for the benefit of the rich, because the Central Bank obtains foreign currency received through remittances to 2,500 pounds, and then finances at the same price the imports made by the main merchants and importers who quote imports in the local market at more than 10 thousand pounds per dollar.

And he added: “The real difference between the official exchange rate (2,500) pounds and the price on which the prices of goods and raw materials are based on the local market of up to 10 thousand pounds goes to the pockets of ( rich) importers and merchants, which reinforces the state of inequality in the distribution of income among citizens”.

Thus, the Central Bank of Syria, in the literal sense of the word, finances the crisis traders (seeking the highest profit at any price) whom it claims to fight and who are attacked by the government at every pronouncement or pronouncement.
