The President of the National Assembly, Virgilio Saquicela, indicated that the plenary will meet this Monday, June 20 – at 5:15 p.m. – to discuss, as the only agenda, the revocation of Executive Order º455 on the state of emergency in the provinces of Cotopaxi, Imbabura and Pichincha declared last night by President Guillermo Lasso.

During a press conference on Saturday afternoon, Saquicela mentioned that 72 members of the assembly had signed a request to revoke the state of emergency.

“Además, se tratará a punto que tiene que ver con la convocatoria a quienes lideran la paralización, así como el presidente Lasso, ya los presidentes de los Poderes del Estado de manera inmediata para que en la Asamblea compare can a dialogue in order to resolve el problem”.

He added that the idea is that neither the country nor the capital are upset. “What we all want is to resolve these issues with the executive and for the best decisions to be made. Consensus and agreement are found to resolve the conflict”.

Tuesday will then be the time when the parties will announce their resolution.

“We hope that on Tuesday, June 21, we can sit down to talk with everyone involved and that peace will return to Ecuador.”

This decision comes just hours after the declaration of a state of exception in these three provinces that President Guillermo Lasso had declared and the application of a curfew in Quito from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

Article 46 of the organic law of the legislative function refers to the revocation of the state of exception. “After notification (…) the absolute majority of the members of the National Assembly, can ask the President of the Assembly to revoke the executive decree which declared the state of exception, who will transmit the said request to the Assembly plenary so that, in a single debate and by an absolute majority (70 votes) of its members, reject the petition or revoke the executive decree.

In all cases, the President of the National Assembly orders the publication of the resolution in the official register.
