The Matrix Oracle is dead
Mary Alice has died aged 85. She is best known for her portrayal of the oracle in the cult film The Matrix Revolutions.
Tony and Emmy Award winner Mary Alice has died, a New York Police Department spokesperson says The Hollywood Reporter confirmed, the actress died on July 27 at her home in Manhattan. According to the report, Alice was 85 years old. She rose to international fame primarily through her portrayal of the oracle in 2003’s “Matrix Revolutions.”
Alice already made a name for herself in the United States in the 70s and 80s as a famous stage and Broadway musical actress. In 1990, for example, she played alongside Robert De Niro (78) in “Age of Awakening”. Alice had other commitments in the films “Malcom X” with Denzel Washington (67), “Perfect World” with Clint Eastwood (92) and Kevin Costner (67) or in “Das Rosenbett” with Christian Slater (52).
Emmy for the series Justzidrama
The former Chicago teacher won her Emmy Award in 1993 for her role as Marguerite Peck in the NBC legal drama series I’ll Fly Away, starring 81-year-old Sam Waterston and 61-year-old Regina Taylor. In the 1976 American cult film “Sparkle”, she also plays single mother Effie, who raises her three daughters against all odds. Mary Alice was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 2000.
