Taxi drivers receive compensation payments due to the pandemic
Hannover (dpa/lni) – Lower Saxony supports taxi drivers affected by the pandemic. Six million euros from a special Corona fund are available for this purpose, the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economic Affairs announced. Specifically, there should be aid for companies and freelancers in the taxi and car rental sector.
“The taxi industry in particular suffered a significant drop in sales during the pandemic,” said Economy Minister Bernd Althusmann (CDU). “The compensation payments come at the right time in view of rising fuel prices.” Depending on the size of the business, the subsidy rate should range from 10 to 17.5 percent of lost sales.
A corresponding guideline will be published on Wednesday. According to the Ministry of Economics, the basis for compensation payments will be lost sales between March 17, 2020 and June 30, 2021. According to the information, all Lower Saxony companies and self-employed workers who were active during the relevant period and achieved sales of at least €10,000 per car are eligible to apply.
