Target energy aid more towards the poorest recipients

Hannover/Berlin (dpa/lni) – The German Social Association (SoVD) believes that the announced financial aid should be improved in favor of the poorest households due to the drastic increase in energy prices. The relief was generally in the right direction, said Stefanie Jäkel of the Lower Saxony state office of the North German Broadcasting Corporation. However, parts of the pack are socially unbalanced, she criticized her on Friday.

For example, people with higher incomes could also benefit from the flat rate of the price of energy of 300 euros, although they need it much less than the most needy. People with lower incomes have proportionally more of this money left after taxes, but it must now be a matter of significant support for precisely these households.

The association similarly described the one-time payment for recipients of social benefits, increased by 100 euros to 200 euros, which the traffic light coalition in Berlin pushed through on Thursday. The step is positive, but people in need must be better protected in the long term in terms of their necessary energy expenditure. There was praise for the planned €9 monthly tickets for local public transport.
