What is the most effective way to help those affected by the war in Ukraine? Those responsible for Tagesspiegel also asked themselves this question and made the decision to start a joint campaign with “Alliance Development Helps”, which consists of many larger and smaller aid organisations, through their own donation association and their initiative “ Menschen helfen!” asking readers for donations.
The donated money should benefit the people of Ukraine, neighboring countries that are in high demand, and also organizations and refugees in Germany itself. It is intended primarily for the alliance’s nine ecclesiastical and secular aid organisations, which are often locally networked and therefore able to help effectively, always adapted to changing needs. The donation association Tagesspiegel will also donate part of the donation amount directly to local refugee aid projects in Berlin and Brandenburg.
With the campaign to help the victims of the Ukrainian war, the Tagesspiegel builds on many rounds of successful donations. Veteran readers know: The traditional fundraising campaign didn’t just start at Christmas for 30 years. Even if there is a catastrophe, such as after the tsunami in 2004, after the earthquake in Haiti in 2010 or after Typhoon Haiyan in 2013, Tagesspiegel organizes a fundraiser together with an experienced development cooperation partner.
