Stephen Graham and Tilda Cobham-Hervey will star in the Disney movie ‘Young Woman and the Sea’.
The stars have been cast alongside Daisy Ridley in the upcoming film, which will be directed by Joachim Ronning.
The film will premiere on the Disney+ streaming service, with Jeff Nathanson penning the script and Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman serving as executive producers. The project is based on Glenn Stout’s book about the daring journey of the first woman, Gertrude “Trudy” Ederle (Ridley), who swam across the English Channel in 1926. Ederle was a competitive swimmer who won a medal in gold at the 1924 Olympics before attempting to cross the Channel. She also swam from Battery Park, New York, to Sandy Hook, New Jersey, setting a record that stood for 81 years. The swimmer struck a deal with two newspapers and sold her story to finance her mission to compete against other women to be the first to complete the epic swim. Actor Cobham-Hervey will play Ederle’s sister in the film.
