Featured line-up at this year’s festival in Bayreuth: Angela Merkel and Thomas Gottschalk, among others, attended the opening.

Like every year, many celebrities attended the opening of the Bayreuth Festival. The one who has not missed the show for years is former Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU, 68). The politician appeared on Monday (July 25) for the premiere of the new ‘Tristan and Isolde’ production, accompanied by her husband Joachim Sauer (73) – and with her bright green two-piece suit was definitely the eye-catcher in front of the Bayreuth village hall.

Merkel already wore this look in Bayreuth in 2019. In addition to the shiny taffeta two-piece suit, she once again grabs her beige clutch bag, which captivates with its fine patterns. The pearl necklace and the watch with a black leather strap were also reused. Sauer threw himself into a classic tuxedo with a white shirt and bow tie.

The couple walked the red carpet with Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU, 55) and his wife Karin. Söder’s wife exuded plenty of glamor in a dark blue sequin dress with an off-the-shoulder cut. The CSU politician also chose a black tuxedo.

Artist Thomas Gottschalk (72) also appeared on the green hill with his partner Karina Mroß. Mroß grabbed everyone’s attention with her figure-hugging purple cape dress. Her blonde hair was styled in an elegant bun. Gottschalk opted for a chic ensemble consisting of a gold jacquard jacket, a purple waistcoat, a black bow tie, a white shirt and black dress pants. He combined round sunglasses with the look, which was color-coordinated with his partner.

The Bayreuth Festival runs from July 25 to September 1. Performances are scheduled almost every day for about a month, including “Das Rheingold”, “Siegfried”, “Lohengrin” or “Die Walküre”.
