  • Captain Kirk actor William Shatner rushes new series like ‘Discovery’ and ‘Strange New Worlds’.
  • The ‘Starship Enterprise’ star is sure ‘Star Trek’ creator Gene Roddenberry would turn in his grave.
  • ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ star Melissa Navia now takes on the ‘Star Trek’ icon!

The “Star Trek” universe is more topical than ever with the new series “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”, “Star Trek: Discovery”, “Star Trek: Lower Decks” and “Star Trek: Picard”. But according to ‘Starship Enterprise’ star William Shatner, ‘Star Trek’ creator Gene Roddenberry is turning in his grave with some of the new series.

Shatner had his say at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, and as he welcomed new Kirk actor Paul Wesley with open arms and congratulated him on playing the new James T. Kirk, he when even jumped at the chance to rush against the new series.

When asked if any of the new series would live up to the original series, he had this response: “None of them. I have Gene Roddenberry in three years [, die die Serie produziert wurde,] come across quite well. He would roll in his grave over some of these things.”

While Shatner certainly speaks from the hearts of some fans here, it’s not particularly collegial. “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” star Melissa Navia thinks so too, quickly tweeting to her, “Has Mr. Shatner seen any episodes of DISCO or SNW?”

DISCO and SNW are of course the abbreviations of “Star Trek: Discovery” and “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”. She continues: “Or Lower Decks? Did he even get into TOS [The Original Series] seen? I know actors who can’t watch their own work, but – oh boy – I can’t.”

She goes on to share a personal experience: “‘All those who wander’ [Episode 9 von SNW] touched me deeply after losing my partner. He also fixed what was broken.” With this, she refers to the unexpected death of her partner shortly before the start of series production and a tragic scene with chief engineer Hemmer (Bruce Horak) , whose purpose in life he formulated as follows: “Fix what’s broken.”

After some feedback from her fans and “Star Trek” fans, Navia concludes that the consensus is that Shatner hasn’t seen any of the new series, “shouldn’t the man put it another way.”

But it’s hard to believe, some fans are actually digging up older statements from Shatner in the comments, where he comments on “Star Trek: Discovery” and actually says he should have seen the first two episodes.

“I’ve only seen 2 episodes of ‘Discovery’ – the first two, I can’t say. It’s been 50 years, so you have to have a little goodwill and turn your head when you watch shows of TV.”

We’ll see soon if Shatner will respond to Melissa Navia as well. The actor is very active on Twitter and he certainly won’t be able to resist addressing him. Maybe he’ll even watch and enjoy Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, who knows.
