According to a report, the number of party branches in the SPD demanding the expulsion of former chancellor Gerhard Schröder is increasing. The “Spiegel” announced on Friday that the responsible arbitration commission of the SPD in Hannover has pending seven requests for a match order procedure.

The applicants included two district associations and five local associations. The magazine referred to the party information.

The arbitration committee had internally suggested that an oral proceeding be avoided and that the case be dealt with in writing, the “Spiegel” later reported. Applicants have until early April to agree on a procedure.

It is hoped that all the requests will be dealt with together, because the reasons for Schröder’s exclusion from the party are very similar. According to the report, the former foreign minister himself has not yet made any statements to the arbitration commission.

It is still open whether Schröder will be represented by a lawyer in the regulatory proceedings. According to “Spiegel” in the SPD Hanover, you can also completely refrain from expressing yourself.

Schröder has not only maintained friendly contacts with Russian head of state Vladimir Putin for years, but is also chairman of the shareholders’ committee of Nord Stream AG and chairman of the supervisory board of Russian state-owned energy company Rosneft. Schröder is also running for a board seat at Russia’s state-owned energy company Gazprom. (AFP)
