The European Women’s Championship begins this Wednesday in England and the Spanish team will start as one of the contenders to win the continental title, which would be the first in the history of the women’s team. Jorge Vilda’s team has several of the best players in the world, most notably Alexia Putellas, Ballon d’Or winner in 2021. After a few weeks of preparation and some warm-up games against Australia (7-0) and Italy (1-1) the team faces the tournament, which will start with a tough group stage. Spain was framed in Group B along with Germany, Denmark and Finland. The Germans are historically the strongest team in Europe, winners of 8 of the last 10 European Championships, and the Danes were finalists at the last edition in 2017. The top two teams advance to the quarter-finals, where they face off against the teams in the group A, made up of England, Norway, Austria and Northern Ireland.

The European Championship will end next Wednesday with the game between England and Austria at Old Trafford, but the Spanish side will not be released until Friday. Jorge Vilda’s side will make their debut against Finland, basically the most favorable rivals in the group, at the 30,000-capacity MK Stadium. Then it’s Germany’s turn to complete the group stage against Denmark. Here you can see the schedule of all the Spanish team’s matches, both in the group stage and in terms of qualifying progress:
