For months, American basketball player Griner was detained in Russia: because of hash oil and smoke cartridges in her luggage. According to Russia, she has now been sentenced to nine years in prison.
A Russian court has sentenced American basketball player Brittney Griner to nine years in prison for illegal drug possession. This was reported by the Russian agency Tas from the court in Chimki near Moscow. Griner did the act knowingly.
The athlete has been detained for five and a half months. She reportedly had vape cartridges and hash oil with her when checking her luggage in Sheremetyevo in February. They say it was 0.5 grams of marijuana – it’s banned in Russia. Griner pleaded guilty about a month ago.
