Relax despite record values? discussing new rules
While the federal government is going ahead with the comprehensive easing of the corona virus, the number of infections is rising significantly again. The course for new measures will be set on Thursday.
Hannover (dpa / lni) – There should be more clarity this Thursday on the question of which corona rules will apply in Lower Saxony in future. In the health commission of the state parliament (10:15 a.m.), the deputies discuss the draft of the planned transitory regulation, which will come into force on Saturday. The state government had already announced that it considered it premature to lift most restrictions on March 20, ie next Sunday, in view of the new record krona values.
In the afternoon, the federal and state governments will agree on how to proceed. Lower Saxony’s Economics Minister Bernd Althusmann sharply criticized the relaxation planned by the federal government in advance. “The federal government is taking power away from the states with its corona relief plan,” the CDU politician told the German Press Agency. “According to experts, the traffic light decision comes at least four to six weeks earlier and is not appropriate for the current infection situation.”
Althusmann also reacted with incomprehension to Karl Lauterbach’s (SPD) call that the federal states should use the opportunity to independently extend the corona rules until early April. “It is strange that the Federal Minister of Health asks the federal states to use the transition period of the applicable regulations until April 2 instead of thinking about extending the current status of the Infection Protection Act. I cannot help but have the impression that the federal government has lost track of things,” the deputy prime minister said.
Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) also advocated allowing states to have more far-reaching regulations than previously provided by the federal government. “It can be shown that the pandemic is not over and it will not be over in early April. This is why we still need the old set of tools after the transition period,” the head of government said on Wednesday. Justice Minister Marco Buschmann (FDP) and Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) previously agreed that most restrictions should be lifted.
Bremen has already announced that it will extend the current corona rules in the state until April 2. This means that the 3G rule will continue to apply in many installations, and 2G plus will continue to apply in clubs and discos.
In Lower Saxony, koruna values had recently risen to all-time highs. On Wednesday, the seven-day incidence was 1,522 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants. The hospitalization indicator rose to 14.2, an all-time high. The value indicates how many infected people per 100,000 inhabitants were admitted to hospitals in the last seven days. According to the Robert Koch Institute, the incidence of new infections in Bremen was around 1,118.
