Prize for projects from Lower Saxony and Bremen

Vechta (dpa/lni) – For their commitment to democracy and tolerance, seven projects from Lower Saxony and Bremen will be honored today (3:30 p.m.) at a public award ceremony. For example, the “Uniting Podcast” at the Bad Münder elementary school in the Hameln-Pyrmont district, which aims to strengthen the school community, was awarded. The podcast provides children and young people with information on school development, for example with a view to democracy and children’s rights. Other winners of the national “Actives for Democracy and Tolerance” competition include Vechta’s “Dealing with Populism/Right-wing Extremism and Conspiracy Stories in the Workplace” project. In addition, initiatives from Osnabrück, Haverlah in the Wolfenbüttel district, Burgwedel in the Hannover region, Oldenburg and Bremen are honored.

The competition is announced annually by the Alliance for Democracy and Tolerance, which is part of the Federal Agency for Civic Education. The winners receive cash prizes of between 1,000 and 5,000 euros, an annual offer of workshops and a greater presence of the public. Throughout Germany, 77 projects were selected as particularly exemplary.
