PP, PDeCAT and Más País-Equo have proposed in Congress the recognition of a special status for the most socially responsible companies and the creation of a new legal personality, the Common Interest Benefit Companies (SBIC).

These three groups have registered this proposal in their amendments to the bill on the creation and growth of companies, the so-called “law creates and creates”, with a new provision to force the government to regulate these companies and the way to validate this new category.

The amendments require these companies to include in their articles of association their commitment to explicitly generate positive impacts on people and the environment, to be subject to greater levels of transparency and external verification to ensure their social goals, and to include fiduciary and accountability duties. .

In parallel, the platforms that promote this initiative, “B Lab Spain” and “Talent for the future”, will present in Congress this Tuesday a proposal to regulate this type of company within the framework of the “Companies with Purpose” initiative.

This initiative, they say, has the support of more than 30,000 signatures being delivered to Congress and the support of more than 400 organizations promoting this ordinance.

Basically, the call for tender foresees the participation of the President of the Economic and Social Council, Antón Costas, and the presence of several members of the Congress’ Economic and Digital Transformation Commission.
