The German Society of Periodontics said that periodontitis is an infection that attacks the supporting tissues that surround the teeth.

The association explained that the causes of periodontitis are gingivitis, which is treated, in addition to neglecting oral and dental hygiene, smoking and diabetes.

The symptoms of periodontitis are red, swollen, bleeding, receding gums and a bad smell in the mouth.

The association emphasized the need to see a doctor immediately after noticing these signs, warning that failure to treat inflammation leads to tooth loss and increases the risk of a heart attack.

In simple cases, treatment consists of brushing the teeth to remove bacteria and tartar, and treatment may include taking antibiotics. In difficult cases, surgery is used to clean deep pockets of the gums, rejuvenate the gums, and plastic surgery to restore the gums.

Although toothache is not usually life-threatening, in some cases it can be a sign of serious conditions that require immediate medical treatment.

There are a variety of factors that can cause pain in a tooth or in several teeth, in particular:

5- Visit the doctor

Make a regular appointment with your dentist to monitor your health, and a regular yearly checkup is a good way to make sure your teeth stay healthy long-term.
