Will Smith has publicly apologized for slapping comedian Chris Rock during Sunday’s Oscars. The actor explained via Instagram on Monday that he was embarrassed by the incident. “My conduct yesterday at the Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable,” Smith said.

He wanted to apologize to Rock, the organizers, the viewers, and everyone involved in the “King Richard” movie. “Pranks at my expense are part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s health was too much for me and I reacted emotionally,” Smith continues.

Comedian Chris Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett, on the Sunday night show in Los Angeles, prompting the actor to go onstage and slap the comedian. After that, he jumped back into his seat and yelled in Rock’s direction, “Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!”

The organizers analyze the possible consequences against the Hollywood star. “The Academy condemns Mr. Smith’s actions at yesterday’s show,” organizers said in a statement. “We have officially started a formal investigation into the incident and will review further procedures and consequences.” After the incident, the organizers had communicated via Twittertolerate “any form of violence”.
