MADRID, July 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Lawmakers in the US House of Representatives, who attended a briefing on Ukraine on Wednesday, said more than 75,000 Russians were killed or wounded during the war in Ukraine.
They have also assured that the Russian military is exhausted, but the Ukrainians are looking for additional reinforcements as they plan to launch a counter-offensive in the south before the winter.
“We’ve been informed that more than 75,000 Russians have been killed or wounded, which is huge, they’ve made an incredible investment in their ground forces, more than 80 percent of their ground forces are deadlocked,” he told CNN. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, who sits on the House Armed Services Committee and recently visited Ukraine.
“I think what we heard very clearly from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and reiterated today is that Ukrainians really want to smack Russia in the teeth before winter comes, they want to put them in the best possible position, especially them meet in the south,” added Slotkin.
In this regard, Slotkin said there was bipartisan support for sending long-range missiles, known as ATACMS, to Ukraine that can hit up to 180 miles (more than 280 kilometers).
However, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan reiterated at the Aspen Security Forum last week that the US would not deploy the ATACMS because they could be used to penetrate deep into Russian territory and further escalate the war.
