The Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company “Masdar” has announced the start of construction works on the 230-megawatt Karadag solar photovoltaic plant in Azerbaijan, the first independent solar power project based on foreign investment.
Masdar has also signed agreements to develop other clean energy projects in Azerbaijan. The opening ceremony in the capital Baku was attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail bin Muhammad Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Azerbaijani Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov and CEO of Masdar, Muhammad Jamil Al-Ramahi.
Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei said: “The UAE and Azerbaijan have deep cultural and economic ties, and share the same vision that aims to ensure a sustainable future based on clean energy. The UAE and Masdar look forward to continuing to promote investment direct and support Azerbaijan is on its ambitious journey in the field of clean energy, exploring more investment opportunities to consolidate our strategic partnership.
For his part, Mohammed Jamil Al Ramahi said: “The inauguration of this project represents an important step in the path of Azerbaijan in the field of renewable energy, and we at Masdar are proud to use our experience and efforts to contribute to supporting the Transformation of the Azerbaijan Energy Sector: The diversification of the energy mix will allow Azerbaijan to move forward in the wheel of sustainable development and improve its energy security, while contributing an active role in efforts to reduce climate change.”
