March for Peace takes Av. 9 de Octubre to Guayaquil

As a call for peace and to put an end to the violence that is taking place in the CONAIE demonstrations against the government in Quito, dozens of citizens of Guayaquil are marching on the afternoon of this Thursday, June 23, along of the avenue on October 9 for the defense of the democracy. The march is led by the government of Guayas.

In videos posted on social networks, people can be seen dressed in white and carrying flags of the Ecuador and white, they sing the national anthem while marching.

The governor of Guayas, Pablo Arosemena, who is leading the march, said that “the arrests have caused our country to lose -at least- more than 168 million dollars in 10 days. These losses are equivalent to the productive investment necessary to create more than 33,000 sources of employment, sustained for 1 year. Guayas and Ecuador want peace”.

Former Assembly members César Rohon and Henry Cucalón joined the protest in support of the government of Guillermo Lasso and the cessation of violence during the protests.
