The General Directorate of Public Health of the Autonomous Community of Madrid received on Wednesday a communication from Centenari Salud SL., the company that manages the Parque de los Frailes public retirement home in Leganés, of the existence of an outbreak of gastroenteritis that affects 43 residents, 19% of all User. Those affected are on different floors of the facilities and have been prescribed different diets, and at the moment none of them have had to be taken to hospital, according to a statement by the government led by Isabel Díaz Ayuso. Although the regional executive is still investigating the causes of the outbreak, the administration had been receiving complaints from users and loved ones about the quality of the water since late last week.

“We have asked that the water, which turns out gray, be analyzed and that the supply be stopped in the meantime so that nobody can drink it. Also, that residents are provided with at least two liters of bottled water every day,” explained Carmen López, spokeswoman for the Association for the Rights of the Elderly and Their Families (Ademaf), in statements to Cadena SER. This organization already filed a complaint in this regard last Sunday.

Therefore, the first measure taken was to seal all the water sources of the facility, which was determined by the Ministry of Family, Youth and Social Policy, led by Concepción Dancausa. In addition, the community has requested the concession company to urgently conduct a toxicity and potability analysis to ensure the quality of the water. Pending the results, bottled water will be supplied to users and workers, relatives claimed.

Also, this Sunday, June 26, at 11am, families will gather at the gates of the residence.
