Lower Saxony FDP elects board

Hildesheim (dpa / lni) – The Lower Saxony FDP elects the state executive at the state party conference on Saturday (10 am) in Hildesheim. According to a spokesperson, all board members are running again; other candidates were not known until shortly before the start of the party conference. Therefore, re-election is considered a formality. Stefan Birkner has been the state president of the FDP since 2011.

In addition, the opposition party wants to discuss the electoral program for the state elections on Saturday. On October 9, a new state parliament will be elected in Lower Saxony. In terms of content, the FDP wants to score points in the election campaign, especially with the issues of education, economy and digitization, General Secretary Konstantin Kuhle recently announced.

After the 2017 state elections, the FDP rejected a traffic light coalition, much to the chagrin of the Social Democrats. The Liberals were part of the state government until early 2013 in a coalition with the CDU under Prime Minister David McAllister.
