Alleged Hildesheim Islamic State Supporter Arrested
Celle (dpa/lni) – The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) arrested a suspected sympathizer of the Islamic State terrorist militia from Hildesheim on Tuesday. The Higher Regional Court (OLG) Celle had previously issued an arrest warrant, as the BKA announced on Twitter. The federal officials were supported in the arrest by the Lower Saxony police.
Hildesheimer is said to have helped his brother, who had traveled to Syria as an Islamic State fighter, an OLG spokesman said. Among other things, it is said that he organized the departure of his brother’s wife and children to Syria. The defendant is accused of supporting a terrorist organization abroad.
The now-banned German-speaking Islamkreis Hildesheim, led by preacher Abu Walaa, who was sentenced in early 2021, is said to have motivated numerous people to join the terrorist militia. A relative of the man arrested on Tuesday also played a role in the Abu Walaa case, the court spokesman said.
