Peat burning triggers deployment of firefighters in Bremen
Bremen (dpa / lni) – A large pile of peat caught fire on Friday in the Bremen district of Industriehäfen. The smoke was thick, according to a fire department spokesman. Residents in the surrounding areas have been asked to keep their doors and windows closed. Ventilation and air conditioning systems must be turned off. The fire brigade was on the scene with around 80 emergency services and tried to break up the mob with wheel loaders.
“The spread of the fire must be contained step by step,” the spokesman said. There was no danger to the surrounding buildings. Firefighters expected an operation until Saturday night. “It’s very tedious,” the spokesman said. He was initially unable to provide any information on the cause of the fire and estimated damage.
