Osnabrück still in the race for promotion: clear victory in Zwickau
Zwickau (dpa/lni) – VfL Osnabrück saved their chances in the race for promotion from the 3rd football league. The purple-whites won 3-1 (3-0) at FSV Zwickau on Sunday and thus continued with the relegation place three. A week after the bitter 1-0 draw against 1. FC Kaiserslautern, Lower Saxony seized their chances more consistently this time around and won deservedly.
Against Zwickauer, coached by Osnabrück record holder Joe Enochs, VfL set the course for victory even before half-time. Felix Higl (22nd minute / penalty kick), Maurice Trapp (34) and Lukas Kunze (44) secured a 3-0 half-time lead. In the second round, the hosts got a little stronger and made it 1:3 (57th) through Dominic Baumann. However, the success of the Osnabrück team was no longer in real danger.
“We knew we had to get three points to stay up,” Higl told “MagentaSport.” “I think the victory was deserved, mainly for the first half.” VfL now have two home games in a row. Next Saturday Viktoria Berlin arrives at the bridge in Bremen, a week later the duel of Lower Saxony with the direct competitor Eintracht Braunschweig continues.
