Fire destroys half-timbered house: hundreds of thousands of euros in damage
Bern (dpa / lni) – A half-timbered house with a thatched roof in Bern (Wesermarsch district) was completely destroyed by fire. Police assume damages of several hundred thousand euros, officials announced on Saturday. The two residents, ages 73 and 79, discovered smoke on the thatched roof Saturday morning and walked out of the home unharmed. When firefighters arrived, the roof was already engulfed in flames. The forces of various fire departments were no longer able to prevent the flames from spreading throughout the house. It is not yet clear what caused the fire. The police launched investigations.
