Schwanewede (dpa / lni) – A garage fire caused a gas explosion in Schwanewede (Osterholz district) on Sunday evening. According to police, a man was slightly injured. According to the information, first a garage in which a car was parked caught fire. A local resident initially tried to extinguish the fire himself, but was unsuccessful. Due to the heat, a gas bottle that was also stored in the garage exploded, police said. The flames then spread further and also spread to the roof structure of a family home.

According to police, the slightly injured man is the owner of the house and was taken to hospital on suspicion of smoke inhalation. The house is currently uninhabitable. Police estimated the damage to be in the six figures. The cause of the fire was not clear at the time.
