Another branch for refugees from Ukraine
Hannover (dpa / lni) – Due to the arrival of many refugees from Ukraine, Lower Saxony will establish another branch of the state reception authority. This will be installed in another room at the Laatzen exhibition center near Hannover, as the Ministry of the Interior announced on Friday. This week a branch had already been installed in another room on the site. According to the ministry, about 1,000 people can be accommodated there; the other room should have a similar number of places.
“In these times we have to make decisions quickly and depending on the situation,” Interior Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) said, according to the announcement. He assumes that the country will create additional capacities to accommodate people from Ukraine.
A few days ago, a center for the distribution of refugees from Ukraine was built at the adjacent exhibition station. According to the ministry, this should mainly alleviate the arrival stations of East Germany. Every day, one of the trains traveling to Berlin via Warsaw and Frankfurt (Oder) is sent directly to the Messebahnhof. So far, eight trains a day, each carrying around 600 Ukrainian refugees, have reached Berlin via this route from Warsaw. At the exhibition station, people must then distribute themselves with the buses that are available there.
