Bösel (dpa / lni) – After a strong headwind in times of Corona, the office furniture manufacturer fm recovered and did much more business. Last year, sales rose by eight percent to a good 70 million euros, the company from Bösel (Cloppenburg district) said on request. In 2020, revenue fell 5.9 percent. The abbreviation fm stands for the founder and former owner of the company, Franz Meyer. fm has 300 employees, an Austrian sister company another 100. Turnover refers to both companies, there was no information on earnings. fm expects business to continue to improve this year.
The Lower Saxony company developed significantly better than the market, as figures from the Industry Association Office and Working World (IBA) show. Around 80 companies based in Germany have specialized wholly or essentially in the manufacture of office furniture. According to the IBA, 13,700 people work in these companies. There are also companies that mainly produce furniture for the home and, more secondarily, office chairs and desks.
After Corona started in 2020, many corporate customers suspended their orders or significantly reduced their orders. More orders came later. The industry benefits from the home office: many people have purchased ergonomic swivel chairs or height-adjustable desks to work from home, or have been provided by their employer.
