30 creatives open workshops on Open Pottery Day
Winsen (dpa/lni) – Under the motto “Look, touch, marvel”, around 30 creatives opened their workshops and studios to interested people at the Ceramics Open Day this weekend. The program includes guided tours and talks, and anyone who wants can try clay modeling for themselves, for example at the potter Kerstin Hübner’s workshop in Winsen an der Aller (Celle district). “I’m still fascinated with the material,” says the artisan, who has been working with clay for more than 30 years. In her workshop, Hübner makes cups, crockery and soap dishes, for example.
In his workshop, visitors can also lend a hand at the turntable. “People come and they can touch and look at the material,” Hübner said on the occasion of Open Pottery Day, when about 500 potters open their doors nationwide. Many people are fascinated by the transformation of a lump of clay on the wheel into a container or vase.
Although many craft markets were canceled during the pandemic, interest in arts and crafts and pottery in particular has increased in recent years, Hübner said. He recently logged more calls and orders. An order takes a few weeks, but then customers have exactly the pottery they want, the artisan said.
