A clear majority of Germans are willing to heat less in winter. However, there are big differences between West and East on this issue. In eastern Germany, 49% of respondents were willing to limit heating, while 67% were in the west.
There are also clear differences in the desire to heat less between genders and different age groups. At 68%, women outperform men at 61%. At 73%, approval is highest in the 18-29 age group, while only 62% agree among 30-59 year olds. According to the survey, approval rose again to 65% among those over 60.
A large majority wants modernization
With 87% of respondents, the overwhelming majority considers measures that ensure greater energy efficiency on or in buildings to be important or even very important. Better insulation, new windows and energy-saving devices are mentioned as options. 85% support the installation of solar systems for self-supply, 81% the replacement of old heating systems.
Many respondents also plan to use new energy sources in the future. 62% were in favor of solar energy for electricity generation and 58% for solar energy from their own roof to heat water. 52% are in favor of installing a heat pump running on electricity from renewable sources.
According to the survey, around two-thirds (64%) consider attractive financing conditions to be an important incentive for an energy-efficient renovation. 55% of respondents would therefore like simpler financing offers to carry out such a renovation.
