The Spanish filmmaker Isabel CoixettWinner of the Goya for Best Film for “The Secret Life of Words” and “The Bookstore”, becomes chairman of the jury for the Horizons (Orizzonti) section of the 79th edition of the Venice International Film Festival, which takes place between August 31st and September 10th. American actress Julianne Moore will chair the jury of the official selection that will compete for the Golden Lion.

Also winner of the Ariel Award for Best Ibero-American Film for “The Secret Life of Words”Coixet will chair an international jury made up of the Italian filmmaker Laura Bispuri (“Figlia mia”), the American director and screenwriter Anthony Fields (“The Devil at All Hours”), the Algerian director sofia djama (“A Dinner in Algeria”, winner of the award for best actress in the “Horizons” section of the Venice Film Festival 2017) and the French film journalist Edouard Waintropwho was recently Artistic Director of Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival.

Among the feature films competing in this parallel section, the Horizons section jury will decide the winners of the Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay and Best Short Film awards.

The organization also announced to the jury who will award the prize Luigi de Laurentiis Prize for Best First Featurewhich will have Italian director Michelangelo Frammartino as president of the jury, composed of American actress Tessa Thompson, Polish filmmaker Jan P. Matuszynski, Portuguese director Ana Rocha de Sousa and French costume designer Rosalie Varda.
