A driver fled through the Brandenburg Gate in Mitte on Thursday to escape a traffic control. As the police announced on Friday, the car was seen around 4:40 p.m. on Luisenstrasse, at the corner of Reinhardtstrasse. A radio patrol team signaled the driver to stop.
This was confirmed with a wave of the hand at first, but then it roared away.
A chase through the city ensued. The car, in which two other young men were seated, accelerated in the direction of Wilhelmstrasse, passed a red light at Pariser Platz and turned right in the direction of the Brandenburg Gate.

On the way, the driver dodged passers-by, brushed against a bollard as he passed the Brandenburg Gate and disappeared towards Platz des 18. März.
According to the police, the car was found a little later on Lüneburger Straße by emergency services, abandoned and unlocked. The police released him for further investigation.
