Important federal highway in the Harz mountains closed for the weekend

Bad Harzburg (dpa / lni) – Federal highway 4 in the Harz mountains will be closed for several kilometers at the weekend. As the State Forests of Lower Saxony announced, cars are not allowed to drive on the road between Bad Harzburg and Torfhaus from Friday to Tuesday. The reason for the closure is the felling of trees.

Motorists planning a weekend trip to the Harz Mountains from the Braunschweig region, for example, have to make a detour. According to the State Forests, they will deviate along the B498 parallel. The ring road is signposted.

According to the information, dead and damaged trees will be felled on both sides of the B4. The trees were affected by the bark beetle and the drought and storms of the last few weeks.

In order to get the job done as quickly as possible, work is also done on Sundays, said the head of operations at the Clausthal Forestry Office, Christian Schulz. The work is made more difficult by the sometimes difficult terrain and the risk of falling rocks.
