Frings on Werder: “You can’t replace Toprak”
Bremen (dpa/lni) – Former national player Torsten Frings is worried about his heart with club Werder Bremen ahead of the second division top flight match against Darmstadt 98. “The three failures hurt Werder a lot. And to be honest: you cannot replace Ömer Toprak! He is the decisive man, the leader,” the 45-year-old wrote in a column for the multimedia portal “Deichstube”. “However, Werder Bremen can win against Darmstadt on Saturday and be promoted at the end of the season.”
Frings was a player for more than eleven years and an assistant coach for more than three years at Werder, but he also coached Darmstadt in the first and second divisions from January to December 2017. “I would like to see both clubs promoted. But if I had to choose, obviously my choice would be Werder Bremen. The club is even more important to me,” he wrote. Of course I’ll be at the stadium on Saturday.
