Bouchard and Martina Roda have made an initial donation of $25,000 to help Ukrainian refugees in Košice, Slovakia. Bouchard is former Executive Vice President of US Steel and legal representative of the Slovak Republic, which transformed Košice Iron Works, in eastern Slovakia, now known as US Steel Košice, in Slovakia after US Steel acquired it. Bouchard and Roda’s donation was made on behalf of the former US Steel American and Slovak business teams.
This first donation was made directly to the city of Košice, a city headed by Mayor Ing. Jaroslav Polaček. Jaroslav Polaček, with whom Esmark, Bouchard and Roda have a long-standing relationship.
“Ukrainian civilians come to Slovakia every day looking for shelter, food, safety and kindness,” said Bouchard to help in the darkest moments of their lives.
Since the Russian invasion, more than 2.6 million Ukrainian civilians, mostly women and children, have fled the country, according to Reuters. 185,000 people came to Slovakia seeking refuge.
