There are quite a few endings in Elden Ring, almost all of which require you to invest heavily in character-specific quests or uncover well-hidden secrets. From Software has made sure that you have a lot of freedom of choice in the ending of the game, as you can choose from all the endings that you have unlocked once you have defeated the final boss. Unless you’ve ventured far below the Leyndell capital and decided to embrace the three-finger mark. This locks you into the Frenzied Flame ending, meaning you don’t get to choose how to proceed past the final boss. Fortunately, you can break this lock by using a special item in a specific location, and we’ll walk you through the process.
Complete Millicent’s long quest and get Miquella’s needle.
To get the item needed to undo the ending of Frenzied Flame, you must first follow Millicent’s long and winding quest. This quest begins with a conversation with Gowry in the Eastern Caelid and takes you on a gaming adventure that only ends once you enter the optional Haligtree area.
You can follow our Millicent quest guide to speed things up and make sure you complete all the necessary requirements. Once she’s done and in possession of her pure Golden Needle, she must defeat one of the toughest bosses in the game, Malenia, which is the final encounter of the Haligtree.
Malenia won’t go down easily, but once you finish her off, rest in a mercy spot and head back to the boss room. In the center of the room you will find a giant flower, and if you approach it in the right place, you will be asked to transform the golden needle into Miquella’s needle. However, she can only use this item in one location, so she has more adventures ahead of her before she can undo this ending.
Kill Dragonlord Placidusax in Farum Azula Crumbling
Next, you should have found and almost completed the last Crumbling Legacy Dungeon Farum Azula. Start at the spot next to the big Grace Bridge, which is right in front of the dungeon boss, and go back using the elevator. Follow the steps down and out, then head straight to the edge of the cliff and look down for some cleverly hidden floating platforms to drop onto.
Work your way across these platforms until you reach a large piece of rubble. On top of this rubble you will find a place that invites you to lie down, in which case you will be teleported to a huge circular boss arena to fight Dragonlord Placidusax.
If you’ve fought any of the other dragons around Crumbling Farum Azula, you’ll find that Dragonlord Placidusax is essentially a powered-up version of him. He hits hard and will no doubt test the skills of many players, but a bit of persistence will quickly bring him down.
Use Miquella’s Needle in the boss arena.
When you’re ready to undo the ending of Frenzied Flame, You must use Miquella’s Needle in the arena of Dragonlord Placidusax. This releases you from the Three Fingers brand and gives you access to any other purpose for which you qualify. However, remember that the needle is a consumable item. So make sure you don’t want to end the game with the Raging Flame ending before using them.
