The main purpose of not sleeping immediately after eating the suhoor meal is to give the food time to digest and not harm the body, as not staying awake for a while results in a variety of health problems.

Among the most important harms of sleeping after suhoor in Ramadan are the following:

1- Weight gain

Eating food and then sleeping directly reduces burning rates, which leads to weight gain and threatens the person with cardiovascular disease and blood pressure.

2- Gastrointestinal disorders

Sleeping after suhoor affects the digestive system and causes many problems such as GERD, heartburn, flatulence, and digestive disorders.

3- clots

According to current medical news, sleeping immediately after eating can expose a person to blood clots during sleep.

4- Sleep disturbances

Causing sleep disturbances and insomnia, resulting in anxiety, tension and lack of concentration during the day in Ramadan.

5- Feeling thirsty

If Suhoor food contains salt or caffeine, and sleeping immediately afterwards makes you feel thirsty during Ramadan day.

6- Infections

Sleeping after Suhoor can cause some inflammation, which in turn specifically affects vascular muscle cells.

7- Difficulty breathing during sleep

If a person eats a lot of food and then falls asleep, they may experience breathing difficulties during sleep, as a full stomach affects the lungs and the breathing process in general.

Does sleeping after suhoor add weight?

In addition, sleeping immediately after suhoor can cause a disturbance in your natural sleep rhythms, as changing these rhythms will cause a disturbance in the hormones that control your appetite, and therefore sleeping after suhoor can lead to weight gain.

The other important point is the nature of what a person eats in suhoor, or rather during the night and even stops eating.

During this open period, the fasting person should avoid eating large amounts of sweets, sugary drinks, fried foods, and fast foods, especially at suhoor meal or just before sunrise.

And if a person eats fast food or drinks high-carbonated soft drinks during the time from night until dawn, it increases the average number of calories consumed by 248 calories.

These healthy foods are represented in dates, since they provide natural sugars that do not cause significant weight gain, and they provide the body with important minerals such as potassium, copper and manganese.

The healthy suhoor table includes vegetables, nuts, eggs, yogurt, cheese, cow’s milk, oatmeal, blueberries, grapes, and strawberries.

To avoid the harm of sleeping immediately after suhoor or gaining weight, it is preferable for those who decide to fast to eat their main meal about two hours before eating.

Also, you should avoid eating anything at least an hour before bedtime, especially if you suffer from any digestive disorders.
