Corona crisis team: Hotspot rule could apply nationwide

Hanover (dpa / lni) – Lower Saxony could apply the hotspot rule planned by the federal government for future corona requirements to the entire state. The federal crisis team had explicitly pointed out this possibility to the federal states, the deputy head of the Lower Saxony crisis team, Claudia Schröder, told the state parliament’s health committee on Thursday. The prerequisite for this is that a more dangerous variant of the virus is introduced or that hospitals are at risk of being overloaded due to the large number of infections.

The crisis team also confirmed that Lower Saxony would use the transition phase until April 2 as planned from the weekend to extend as many existing corona rules as possible. One tries to use the “rudimentary measures that will still be permissible”, said the head of the crisis team, Heiger Scholz.

The relaxation plan of the federal government, according to which many corona restrictions will be lifted from Sunday, was criticized as irresponsible in the SPD, the CDU and the Green committee. The FDP, for its part, argued that if the pandemic situation changed, there would have to be changes in the regulations. Currently, both the number of coronavirus infections and the number of hospital admissions of infected people in Lower Saxony are higher than ever.
