Chancellor comforts the DFB team after the final
Olaf Scholz visited the German soccer players in the locker room after the final – and promised to support women’s football.
Olaf Scholz (64) and his political colleagues supported the German national footballers in the stands during the European Championship final in England. With his wife Britta Ernst (61), the Chancellor was invited to Wembley Stadium in London. Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (52) and Bundestag President Bärbel Bas (54) also crossed their fingers in the stands.
After the defeat against hosts England (1-2 after extra time), he visited the DFB team in the locker room. According to the media, he expressed his respect for the team there – and promised that he would work for the future of women’s football. The official The DFB women’s Twitter account posted a photo chancellor’s whirlwind visit.
Also Olaf Scholz praised via Twitter the team “It was an exciting tournament and all of Germany is proud of this team!”, he wrote in particular.

Under her blazer, the Minister of the Interior wears a jersey worn by goalkeeper Merle Frohms (27). “I was only able to congratulate the women of the DFB after the match for being vice-champions of Europe,” she wrote.
