MADRID, August 3 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (CERMI) has lodged a complaint with the Ombudsman to investigate the actions taken by the Ministry of Equality in its “Summer is Ours” campaign, which, according to complaints, has “erased” the disability as one of the models.

The institution “regrets” that disability was “erased” in the Equality-sponsored initiative “as if it were something that needs to be hidden or hidden from public view” and believes that this is not an “appropriate treatment of the social images of is the “people” of this group.

You are thus referring to the image of one of the models of the poster inspired by Instagram photos, as stated by the company that created it, ArteMapache. In this case, the original model has a prosthetic leg, which does not appear on the poster.

“Disability is an expression of dignified and valuable human diversity that deserves respect and should be part of public expressions such as advertising, and even more so when it is official, as in the case of the ‘Summer is ours’ campaign, which the entity has resigned from.

According to him, if the image of a person with a disability is used as an inspirational model for advertising, the last thing that needs to be done is to ‘remove’ or ‘disguise’ the disability, as if it were ‘something shameful or unworthy to show’. , which should not be offered to the collective gaze of the media and public opinion”.

“To ensure that unfortunate events such as these do not happen again, CERMI calls on the Ministry of Equality and the rest of the public authorities to equip themselves with inclusive style manuals for social images, in which disability functions as an element of value and presence with respectful approaches”, concluded CERMI in a statement.
