Even the Berlin police stations do not always have complete protection against robbers. A whole series of thefts in police buildings or corresponding properties have been reported in recent years since 2019, according to a request by CDU deputy Frank Balzer.

Everything from cash and candy to bikes and uniforms, ID cards and a cell phone was stolen. A car also came out.

The value of the stolen objects ranged from a few to ten thousand euros. Small police stations were affected, as was the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) at Tempelhofer Damm and the large police precinct with the training academy in Spandau.

All people who had access to buildings and properties were likely to be thieves: police officers, administrative employees, security guards, cleaning staff, technicians and craftsmen.

Another written request was made by CDU deputy Balzer on the subject of “Central Property Protection of the Berlin Police”.

As can be seen from the response of the interior administration, well over a total of 600 buildings and institutions such as ministries, embassies, synagogues and associations in Berlin received special protection from the police last year.

70 ministries, embassies and synagogues are constantly under surveillance

Police guards, the so-called property guards, remained permanently in front of an average of 68 buildings, the Senate announced. Another 566 buildings had “mobile protection,” meaning that security guards went to the locations from time to time to check them.

The intensity of an institution’s protection depends on the risk analysis carried out by the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) and the respective political situation. For example, in October 2021 the protection was increased, 73 objects were protected permanently and stationary.

There are always security guards in front of many synagogues and Jewish schools, in front of the federal ministries, the Red Town Hall and the seat of the Senator of the Interior, as well as a whole series of embassies. Ukrainian and Russian facilities are also currently receiving increased protection.

The so-called central object protection includes about 1,500 security guards who are not policemen, but employees with brief training. (dpa, teaspoon)
