Berliners and Brandenburgers should not prematurely cancel VBB subscriptions

In the context of the second energy aid package presented by the federal government on Thursday, the Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB) asked its customers not to cancel their subscriptions prematurely.

The federal package provides for the introduction of a “9 for 90” ticket: 90 days of bus and train travel for nine euros a month. Just one measure among many to relieve citizens of rising energy costs as a result of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine in other financial ways.

However, the VBB now asked its subscribers to wait for their “active communication” first. Coordination is currently underway with all those involved, with the states of Berlin and Brandenburg and the association’s transport companies, “to discuss the specific framework conditions for implementation.” However, to do this, the federal government must be more specific about implementation.

A German-wide coordination between the respective transport associations is also helpful. “We assure you that we are working on the timely implementation of the energy relief package in the interest of all passengers.”

Berlin transport senator Bettina Jarasch (Greens) welcomed the planned introduction of the “9 for 90” ticket. “We will now quickly coordinate with the federal government and our partners in the VBB so that our transport companies can include the 9 for 90 tickets in their offer,” Jarasch told the Tagesspiegel.

They also want to use the offer for a “public transport offensive”: “If we want to become independent from Russian oil and gas, a lot more people will have to leave their cars and take the train.”

The new ticket should also be a topic at the special conference of transport ministers scheduled for Friday.
