Berlin (dpa) – According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the security authorities have information about 27 right-wing extremists traveling to Ukraine.
This group has information about movements or travel intentions, a ministry spokesman confirmed on Monday. The “Süddeutsche Zeitung” had already reported on this. Twelve have already returned from Ukraine.
In addition, authorities were aware of a number of right-wing extremists “in the low single digits” for whom there was evidence of intentional involvement in acts of war, the spokesman said. Some of the planned or carried out sorties are not for the purpose of participating in battles “but a so-called “on-the-spot report” or “on-the-spot help.” So far, federal police have prevented extremists from leaving the country in numbers of a single digit.
“The security authorities have a vested interest in preventing extremists from leaving the country,” the spokesman said. If extremist German citizens intend to travel with the possible aim of participating in exercises or combat operations, the federal police will check whether they can be sent on a search, with the aim of banning them from leaving the country.
