According to official figures, at least nine people were killed in a Russian attack on a military training camp some 15 kilometers from the Polish border. Another 57 were injured and are being treated in clinics, Ukraine’s western Lviv (Lemberg) region governor Maxym Kosytskyi said on Sunday. A reporter from the British “Guardian” newspaper, who was at the Yaworiv training camp, reported more than 20 deaths, citing rescue workers.
A Ukrainian military base in Yavoriv was attacked. The “Center for International Peacekeeping and Security” is located about 40 kilometers north-west of Lviv. There is a military training center and a military training area.

So far, no Russian attack has come closer to NATO territory. According to the governor of the Lviv region, Maxym Kosytskyi, Russia fired around 30 rockets at the base. Some were intercepted.
Foreign Fighter Training Center
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said the attack targeted a training center near the Polish border, where peacekeepers are also trained for peacekeeping missions and where NATO trainers worked until shortly before the war. Initially it was not known if there were foreigners among the victims.
According to the Ukrainian army, around 20,000 volunteers from all over the world have turned up for the fight. About 1,000 foreign fighters are said to have recently been trained at the base.

According to the American newspaper “New York Times”, parts of weapons deliveries from Western countries to Ukraine also pass through the camp. Only on Saturday did Moscow announce that it would also attack convoys carrying weapons from the West.
As the “New York Times” reports, there were a total of eight rocket attacks on the military base early Sunday morning. Meanwhile, photos are circulating on Twitter that supposedly show the consequences of the attacks on the camp. They cannot be verified.
“This is a new terrorist attack on peace and security near the EU-NATO border,” Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov tweeted. He again asked NATO to establish a no-fly zone over Ukraine. The alliance had already rejected this. (with agencies)
