Of the many scenarios for ending the war, a negotiated peace seems particularly obvious. At the end of the second week of the invasion, even a military layman can see that Russia cannot defeat Ukraine, any more than Ukraine can expel the invaders from the country. All that remains is escalation, which will bring more violence, suffering and death, and with a high degree of probability will also lead to a military stalemate.
