Accused of murder remains silent at the beginning of the trial

Göttingen (dpa/lni) – A 44-year-old man charged with murder did not appear at the start of his trial at the Göttingen Regional Court. The Public Ministry accuses the man of insidiously killing his ex-partner on August 25, 2021. The man has to answer to the district court from Wednesday.

According to the indictment, the 44-year-old man visited his ex-girlfriend in Göttingen on August 25 with the aim of killing her. According to the information, the Hanover man is said to have feigned peaceful demeanor and then surprisingly strangled the woman.

To simulate a natural death, the German is said to have left traces that should suggest excessive alcohol consumption by the woman. Among other things, he covered alcohol. He also sent a message to his son from the deceased woman’s cell phone, in which she complained of a sore throat and excess alcohol.

At the beginning of the hearing, three witnesses and two experts were invited. They were two policemen, an acquaintance of the dead man who had alerted the police, the coroner and a psychological expert. The defendant has been in custody since September 2021.
